LAMDA

LAMDA

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is a centre of excellence in performance training. The LAMDA examinations have been refined and developed into a comprehensive system of performance evaluation by experts in education, acting and communication.

The LAMDA mission is:

  • improve standards in communication through the spoken word

  • foster an appreciation of literature and drama

  • acknowledge levels of achievement

  • provide a framework in which individual talent can grow

  • support the creative, intellectual and social development of the individual as a whole.

LAMDA examinations are designed to equip candidates, whatever their age and aspirations, with a range of skills that will serve them throughout life. Preparation for an examination can:

  • unlock the imagination

  • develop communication skills

  • refine technical artistry.

The examination itself provides candidates with an opportunity to:

  • measure progress against an internationally applied standard

  • make contact with expert assessors outside the immediate teaching environment

  • receive critical appraisal and guidance for future development

  • build self-confidence and self-esteem

  • acquire skill certification

  • acquire a record of personal achievement.

OUR LESSONS

Our Speech and Drama lessons are open to all Longacre pupils from Forms 1 to 6. They take place during the normal school day and the timetable is arranged to accommodate this.

LAMDA examinations are held in the school, normally in March each year, and pupils are entered for the subject and grade most appropriate to his or her age and natural aptitude.  Exams are taken in verse and prose, acting and mime.  A presentation ceremony is arranged later in the term.

QCA ACCREDITATION

LAMDA Examinations are accredited as an Awarding Body by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England and the corresponding regulatory authorities in Wales and Northern Ireland.

The LAMDA qualifications are part of the National Qualifications Framework and equate with other qualifications within the sector.

THE UCAS TARIFF

Those LAMDA Advanced Level Graded Speech and Drama examinations which are accredited by the National Qualifications Framework at Level 3 are now included in the UCAS Tariff. The allocation of Tariff points will come into effect for entry to Higher Education from 2008.
