Longacre School has been listed in the Sunday Times list of the Top 100 Independent Preparatory Schools in England.

Sports

Sport is a key part of life at Longacre. With 9½ acres of greenery, pitches are abundant and complemented by an astroturf surface and Sports Hall. Specialist staff, competitive and experienced sports men and women, coaches the children from Kindergarten upwards, sharing their expertise. The energy our sports department exudes, inspires the children physically and tactically.

All children participate in competitive matches from the age of 6 years. Initially the focus is dominated by involvement, representing the school, meeting other children and enjoying the match tea, journey in the minibus and the overall experience. As children progress into Form III, boys and girls segregate and play single sex and mixed sports with all children competing in matches every week. ‘A’ teams play competitively and relish the win whilst understanding the etiquette of losing; those less inclined to contact sports will still participate in teams of like-minded children. Children of all abilities are encouraged to participate and are given the opportunity to do so.

Girls enjoy netball, hockey, lacrosse, cross country, athletics, tennis and rounders whilst the boys enjoy football, rugby, hockey, cross country, athletics, tennis and cricket. A multitude of sports are available in after school clubs and the PE curriculum provides children with a chance to develop fundamental skills as well as exploring other physical activities such as golf, basketball and gymnastics.

  • I first joined Longacre in Form III. At first I was really nervous as I had no idea what it was going to be like. I still remember going on a tour around the school with Mrs Bolton.
