New Library Opening

Posted: 2nd May 2019

Monday 29th April saw the opening of the newly located Prep School Library. Based on an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme, parents were invited to come and view the wonderful pictures, created by Miss Butler as well as to see the new Accelerated Reading Scheme, which is currently operating for pupils in both Forms II and V. Later in the term Forms IV and III will be undertaking their initial tests for the Accelerated Reader programme.

The library has come on a long way since its days as the changing rooms only a few years ago and it is full of light thanks to Mr Cox’s tireless work in cutting down all the Triffids that were relentlessly trying to encroach through the windows.

We have 16 new bookcases housing the Accelerated Reading books, as well as sections for non-fiction, Graphic novels, picture books for older readers, as well as a magazine and annuals rack. We have subscribed to First News – the weekly newspaper for children, and will open subscriptions with a number of magazines from September; including National Geographic for Kids, The Week Junior and WRD About Books (an excellent magazine that gives all sorts of information about the latest releases in children’s books).

All in all it is a very exciting time in the library and it was lovely to see so many parents showing an interest, both on Monday and afterwards. I am more than happy to welcome parents in to see me and what is on offer and to answer any questions you may have.
