Head’s Welcome

It is with great pride that I write to you, welcoming you to Longacre. As a teacher and a parent of children at the school, I can honestly and confidently tell you that this truly is a magical place where children are able to start their educational adventure in an environment that is befitting of their time of life.

Longacre is a co-educational independent school for children aged 2 to 11. We are just five miles south of Guildford, but set in the glorious Surrey Hills. Children have woods to explore, time to enjoy the fresh air, and encouragement to get muddy.

For me, childhood is not a race to see how quickly a child can read, write and count. It is a small window of time to learn and develop at a pace that is right for each individual. The world today presents our children with wide ranging opportunities as well as significant challenges. At such a time, the ethos and values of a Longacre education, offering a comprehensive and consistent approach to a child’s education, becomes ever more important.

Being present when a child starts their educational journey, watching them flourish through adolescence and then grow into confident young people, ready for the next adventure with their own individual story to tell, both excites and motivates us all at Longacre. Against this canvas the academic portrait of each child can be painted, layering up solid foundations for learning and for successful outcomes. Allowing this mantra to flow effortlessly across the whole school offers a rare and unique educational experience, teaching the children how to learn not what to learn, to think independently, to challenge and to discuss.

An independent school in every sense, at Longacre we set our own agenda and use our wealth of experience to give the children the best preparatory education. We are not tied to any senior school and a large part of our success is down to understanding our children, and knowledge of the wide choice of destination schools.

We are incredibly proud of the diverse destinations to which Longacre children advance, with year groups of around 36 progressing to in excess of 15 different senior schools, at the end of Form VI. Children are unique and should go to the school where they will feel valued and appreciated for what they are. We take care to get to know our children as they go through the years here, and then work with parents to find the ideal match for their next step.

Our website provides a snapshot into life here through photographs, written accounts, videos, and reports, but nothing can truly replicate the happiness and excitement that one feels by being here, so please do come and visit us and see first-hand how wonderfully caring the staff are, and how proud the children are of their school.

I look forward to meeting you.
