Longacre School is located in the picturesque village of Shamley Green situated about 5 miles south of Guildford, between the villages of Wonersh and Cranleigh, in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty one of England’s Finest Landscapes.
Guildford is within easy reach of Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and with excellent rail links to London (40 minutes) and the South Coast (50 minutes), and served by M25, M3 and A3. There are mainline trains to London Waterloo running from a number of railway stations all within a 7-mile radius of the school. South Western Railway operate fast trains to Waterloo from Godalming, Farncombe and Guildford stations and Southern Railway run a service connecting Shalford and Guildford station.
Guildford, the historic and vibrant county town of Surrey, is well known for its quaint cobbled High Street and high-end shops. Guildford has three shopping centres – The Friary Centre, White Lion Walk and Tunsgate Quarter. You can catch a gig or show at one of the popular entertainment venues or theatres or pay a visit to one of the two leisure centres for an afternoon of family fun.
Shamley Green village boasts two pubs, the Red Lion and the Bricklayers Arms, as well as an excellent village store with a post office, all centred around the village green upon which cricket has been played for over 160 years. Many big names have lived in the village or nearby, including Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Sir Richard Branson and Sir Alfred Hitchcock, who named his production company, Shamley Productions, after the village.
Most of the children attending Longacre come from Guildford, Godalming and Cranleigh and the surrounding villages; Bramley, Wonersh, Shalford, Busbridge, Hascombe, Dunsfold, Hambledon, Blackheath, Shere, Albury & Chilworth. The area is well known for its excellent independent senior schools including the highly sought-after Royal Grammar School (boys), Guildford High School (girls), and Tormead School (girls), all located in the Guildford town centre, as well as St Catherine’s (girls/boarding) in the nearby village of Bramley. For those wanting co-education there is Cranleigh School and King Edward’s Witley, as well as Reigate Grammar School, just a 25 minute journey by train from Shalford.
