National Schools Indoor Series

The ski-season has started!

On Monday, Longacre took part in the first ski race of the National Schools Indoor Series at Hemel Hempstead.  Will P, Dexter R, Joe S and Thomas S represented Longacre along with 210 other children from junior schools from around the country.

The race is run over two legs using the same course.  It is important to put in a competitive first run as the snow deteriorates during the race and generally runs slower on the second leg.  The fastest leg counts.

After a practice session and course inspection the race got underway.  The course skied a lot harder than it looked.  There were a few nerves jangling and a particularly tricky gate near the end of the course, which caught out a lot of competitors.  Fortunately, our boys negotiated it with style.

In the U12s, all three boys put in really solid performances.  In a field of 51, Will came 20th, Dexter 21st and Joe 33rd.   There was a similarly large starting line-up of 56 in the U10 boys.  In a closely fought competition for medal places, Thomas came second securing the silver medal.  A brilliant result and a wonderful day.

A great start to the season, boys.  Well done!
