Classroom doors are open from 8.20am, however if parents need to drop their children off earlier than this we do have a supervised Early Morning Club which runs from 7.30am.
In Nursery and Kindergarten we offer a flexible start to the day with parents being able to drop their children off from 8.20am until the register is taken at 9am. Children in Reception are registered promptly in the morning at 8.30am, in order for them to attend whole school assemblies and start the school day.
Naturally staff are available in their classrooms for parents to speak with if they have any concerns or information that you feel they need to be aware of before the school day commences.
On entry to the classrooms all children are encouraged to be independent but at all stages in the Pre-Prep we build on prior experiences and extend the essential skills that make lifelong learners. Children are encouraged and guided to mix with others, to share and take turns, to sit quietly for short periods of time and gradually become more independent.
Morning sessions accommodate the core learning periods when key concepts are covered and the aspects of Literacy and Mathematics are taught and topics introduced. Afternoon lessons are more creative or physical although still very much educational rather than simply play; there is still an emphasis on learning through self-directed play and finding things out for themselves. We are mindful of the children’s age and how tired they become by the afternoon sessions.
In all areas of the Pre-Prep Department the session or day draws to a close with a story and some time for reflection about the day.
Children are dismissed individually to their parents or carer with a handshake and a ‘Good morning’ or ‘Good afternoon’. It is at this time that teachers are more than happy to chat to parents and will provide detailed feedback on the child’s day alongside that documented in the child’s electronic profile and in the Contact Book.
