Sports

Sport at Longacre is an important part of school life. The sporting opportunities are vast with many different sports built into the PE & Games Curriculum and/or available as extra-curricular clubs. The Sports Department works hard to balance the inclusive nature of our programme with the competitive opportunities at regional and national levels where applicable. Through our sports curriculum our aim is that all children will discover and develop:

  • The joy of moving and being physically active
  • A deep sense of physical accomplishment and wellbeing
  • A range of skills and sport
  • A sense of team spirit
  • A positive physical identity
  • The desire to play sport outside school, leading to lifelong physical activity

The children are able to take advantage of the school’s fantastic sports facilities including:

  • The Palmer Hall (multi-purpose sports hall including 3 courts for badminton/netball/basketball)
  • Astroturf (2 courts for tennis/hockey/netball)
  • Playing Fields (2 Under 11 Pitches / 4 Under 9 Pitches and a separate training area)
  • Woods

In Games, boys and girls enjoy seasonal English sports such as:

  • Football
  • Netball
  • Hockey
  • Rugby
  • Cricket

All children from Forms II – VI are given an opportunity to represent Longacre in competitive fixtures against other schools, on a weekly basis.

At Longacre children also benefit from our extensive P.E. curriculum which promotes personal fitness and development through a varied and rewarding programme. Curriculum activities include:

  • Dance
  • Athletics
  • Badminton
  • Gymnastics
  • Tennis
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
