Life before Longacre
Prior to working in education, I had a seven year career working for Network Rail. I was based in London in the IT department, working as a software analyst. Albeit, I chose a very different career than my actual desire, which was to teach and work with children. I eventually bit the bullet and made a career change, not to mention a life change. In 2011 I started as a Teaching Assistant here at Longacre, working with the exceptional Caroline Palmer, whom our fantastic Palmer Hall is named after. Due to relocating I then worked in an all girls’ school in Kingston where I had the pleasure of teaching Reception for two years. In the duration of my placement I also gained my Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma.
Roles at School
I happily re-joined Longacre in 2014 where I was offered the role of Kindergarten Teacher. I felt utterly privileged to be back and working in such an energetic and inspiring school. I really enjoy seeing all those Kindergarten children around the school, looking so grown up now. After maternity leave I then made the decision to put my career on hold. Therefore my role is now a part-time HLTA based in Form I. I feel I have the best of both worlds, whereby I get to continue to do what I thoroughly enjoy doing and teach children, yet at the same time also spend quality time with my son.
Away from the Classroom
I am fortunate enough to have a fabulously close and large family, who I see regularly. Just immediate family around the dinner table is now seventeen, including children…expensive Christmases and lots of birthdays! Family aside, I speak fluent Italian, enjoy yoga, being outside in the fresh air as often as possible and being by the seaside any chance I get, no matter what the weather! I enjoy travelling with my husband and son and I am partial to the odd word search book too!
