Sports Masterclass at Reed’s School

Posted: 8th May 2018

Longacre’s gifted and talented sports children had a mesmerising day at Reed’s School on Tuesday 8th May. The pupils were met by Mr Edwards, Director of Sport and had a personal tour around the school’s outstanding facilities. These included the school’s playing fields, indoor cricket centre, swimming pool and indoor tennis bubble.

The pupils were then treated to three different sports sessions run by some of the professional sports staff. Mr Medlycott (Head of Cricket) got the pupils moving in a competitive cricket session where the capped team won. Mr Pope (Head of Rugby) took over and led an active session exposing the group to different aspects of rugby and decision making. The final sports session was run by Mr Haining (Head of Strength and Conditioning) where the pupils looked at different muscle activation techniques and types of stretches.

To finish the day, the entire group had a question and answer session with the professional coaches, including Mr Garrard (Head of Hockey). The questions asked were thought provoking and demonstrated a genuine interest from the individuals.

The children should be incredibly proud of how they behaved on the trip and were a credit to Longacre.
