This week saw the first session of the new Community Service Club which is linked to leadership development at Longacre. Following a link provided by one of our governors to a club for the elderly that meets each Wednesday at Blunden Court in Bramley, some of our Year 6 pupils headed off with Mrs Hall-Palmer to do what they do best – have a good old chat!
The ‘young at heart’ crowd at Blunden Court were so pleased to see the children and the Longacre pupils were fantastic, showing great confidence, maturity and empathy as they talked to all the club members and listened to many amazing tales – some very emotional. It proved that any age gap is insignificant when there are stories to be told!
The visit was a great start for Longacre and we have been invited to visit every two weeks which we are really looking forward to. All the pupils who went had a great time and we think the feeling was reciprocated as the club members didn’t want us to leave when their usual entertainment arrived.
Huge thanks to Jenny for helping us organise the visits – we can’t wait to come again!
Mrs Hall-Palmer
