Tom Palmer Author Visit

Posted: 30th September 2019

On Wednesday the children in Forms III-VI enjoyed a visit from the author Tom Palmer. Tom answered some very sensible questions about his books, which centre around his own interests; football, rugby and history. He spoke about how long it takes him to write his books and where he gains his inspiration. His book ‘Armistice Runner’ is based on his daughter’s love (and his own) for fell running. In order to get the book published he had to link it to the First World War, as many sports do not appeal to publishers as potential subjects for  books.

Tom then quizzed the children on their knowledge of sport, books and magazines – linking to his books and his own experiences – with the pupils giving correct answers qualifying for a rugby goal kicking contest. Ollie K was victorious in the Form III-IV competition and Harry H won a controversial V-VI tournament, which needed to go to the TMO!

All-in-all a great morning. Now to get on with the reading!
