Author and illustrator Sophy Henn visited us on Tuesday and did a series of excellent presentations to the children up to Form IV. Nursery joined in with her when reading her ‘Ted’ stories, whilst Kindergarten & Reception were treated to her wonderful ‘Where Bear’ & ‘Super Duper You’ books. Both groups were then shown how to draw one of her characters, Pom Pom, a young panda who was having a particularly bad day!
Forms I-IV were all treated to some amazing facts from Sophy’s book ‘Lifesize’ which contains life-size pictures of a giant squid eye, polar bears’ pads and a bee hummingbird among others. Along with the staff, we all drew a giraffe, having discovered how long a giraffe’s tongue is and why it is purply-blue! (Well done Evie M for knowing the reason for this.)
Sophy touched on her ‘Bad Nana’ series with Forms III & IV, which proved very popular. We are aiming to provide the children with lots of opportunities to meet different authors, illustrators and poets over the coming terms. To be honest we never really know how good they are going to be until they get here. Sophy Henn was definitely a major and everyone who sat down with her in the Palmer Hall had a wonderful experience.
