Tennis at Longacre

Posted: 5th October 2021

We have a tremendous range of clubs on offer at Longacre and one of our most popular is tennis. We are very lucky to have two LTA licence coaches, Amelia Taylor and Al Mezzetti, who have over 40 years of coaching experience between them, teaching tennis at Longacre. We have nine group tennis clubs running before school and during lunchtime for children from Year 1 to Year 6. This includes selective Junior and Senior tennis squads for 50 minutes a week for about 50 children. We also offer individual, 1:2,1:3 or 1:4 peripatetic weekly lessons for those who wish to play for longer.

Coaching sessions follow a game-based approach which consists of a warm-up, a technical teaching point, a practice element finishing off with a game. All pupils learn to serve from the outset so as soon as they are ready to play matches, they can. There is good mix of cardio and more detailed work on technique so the pupils learn through having fun. Matches are being planned against other schools for the summer term.

Amelia has helped two Longacre pupils attain tennis scholarships to St Teresa’s and one to University of Texas at Dallas in the last three years.
