Yesterday Forms IV – VI had an inspiring virtual author visit from Lisa Thompson, writer of The Goldfish Boy, The Light Jar, The Day I was Erased and many more! The children learnt about Lisa’s journey as a writer and how she realised she loved making stories in her English lessons at school and shared all the stories that influenced her as a child. It was fascinating to hear about her writing process and how she always tries to include a ‘red herring’ in her plot. This was then demonstrated with a virtual escape room, where the children had to crack the clues to solve the mystery avoiding the misleading ‘evidence’. At the end, Lisa answered the children’s thoughtful questions about her books, the challenges of writing and how tackling a fear of failure is crucial to publish your first novel.
