The Nursery children enjoyed a glorious pirate-themed Empty Classroom Day on Monday. They started the day with music with Miss du Pon and it was the perfect sunny day to read ‘The Pig in The Pond!’. The children used instruments to re-enact the story of the pig unexpectedly jumping into the pond, inspiring all of the other animals to follow suit. They were captivated by the story and used their instruments to reflect all of the different water sounds brilliantly. They then spent some time doing free play activities whilst they took turns to use a bow saw to cut a treasure coin to decorate. The children had great fun playing with the mud kitchen, drawing their own treasure maps and exploring the woods with binoculars.

We stopped for a snack and drink mid-morning before the children ventured off around the woods hunting for ‘treasure’ that had been hidden by some pirates. The children loved toasting a marshmallow over the fire and then before we knew it, it was time for lunch. The children sat around the outdoor classroom to eat their picnic lunch whilst the remaining embers smouldered. It was a fantastic morning and enjoyed by all.
